Popcorn Balls – For the Birds

2 quarts freshly popped corn

½ cup packed brown sugar

¼ cup shortening

1 cup peanut hearts

½ cup light corn syrup

¼ tsp. baking soda

Directions

Grease baking sheet, spread nuts and popcorn.  Next, combine shortening, sugar and syrup, heating the mixture at medium low, stirring until 250 degrees on candy thermometer.  Then, remove from heat. Next, stir in baking soda.  Pour at once over popcorn and nuts.  Toss rapidly with wide spatula until pieces are coated. Roll into balls once cooled.  Hang outside on tree.  Note:  This is not for human consumption.
